About Kanien Surfaces - Indigenous-Owned Flooring Experts
Our Story
Rooted in Community
and Quality

Kanien Surfaces is an
Indigenous-owned,
Canadian-operated
commercial flooring
supply company.

We are registered in the federal Indigenous Business Directory, administered by Indigenous Services Canada, and eligible under the Procurement Strategy for Indigenous Business (PSIB).

Founded on
Indigenous Values

Kanien Surfaces was established to provide superior flooring solutions with a foundation built on Indigenous ownership, cultural respect, & community involvement.

The name comes from Kanien'kehá:ka for the Mohawk people, “People of the Land of the Flint”. Flint stone was the primary material available to the Mohawk people for their tools, weapons, buildings and the surfaces of their floors. Flint was so integral to Mohawk life that Kanien'kehá:ka is how the Mohawk refer to themselves.

Our mission is to deliver exceptional craftsmanship and reliable service tailored to the unique needs of industrial and commercial clients across Canada.

Our Story

Kanien Surfaces is a 100% Indigenous‑owned flooring company dedicated to providing high‑quality flooring
solutions for large‑scale institutional and commercial projects.

The company was founded by Aron Brant, a member of the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte in Deseronto, Ontario. He has spent the majority of his career owning, operating, and acquiring healthcare businesses across the province of Ontario. Knowing that developers, architects, and speculators are looking for more Canadian, Indigenous-owned businesses to work with and support, Aron sees Kanien as an opportunity to give back to his community through quality products, and build an Indigenous-owned entity in the flooring and surfaces industry.

To support the company's growth and operational excellence, Aron has appointed Jeremy Scherba as Chief Operating Officer. Jeremy brings over three decades in the flooring industry across installation, retail, and cross-border import and distribution, with established relationships with leading flooring manufacturers worldwide - adding significant technical expertise and supply depth to Kanien Surfaces.

The Government of Canada, through the Procurement Strategy for Indigenous Business (PSIB), requires federal departments and agencies to direct a minimum of 5% of the total value of their contracts to Indigenous-owned businesses. Many federally funded projects also carry Indigenous Participation Plan (IPP) commitments at the project level.

Kanien Surfaces is 100% Indigenous-owned and registered in the Indigenous Business Directory (IBD), administered by Indigenous Services Canada. Products purchased from Kanien Surfaces qualify as Indigenous spend, meaning general contractors and installers can count Kanien product toward PSIB targets and project IPP commitments, with registration that is independently verifiable in the Directory.

About Jeremy Scherba

Kanien's production and supply side is supported by Jeremy Scherba, who brings 34 years in the flooring industry. Jeremy has worked every level of the flooring trade — from hands-on installation, to owning and operating a regional retail flooring business, to leading cross-border import and distribution. He brings direct relationships with many of the world's leading flooring manufacturers, deep technical product knowledge, and the logistics experience to deliver at institutional scale.

Through that business he has:

  • Built proprietary product lines and brands
  • Run white-label, dealer, and builder-direct programs.
  • Established direct relationships with overseas manufacturers, importing in full-container volume and managing landed cost, duty, freight, and exchange
  • Supplied a wide range of customers — independent retailers, multi-family and builder-direct programs, and national dealer groups
  • Built a network of coast-to-coast delivery across Canada, supported by national warehousing and distribution.

Earlier, Jeremy owned and led Scherba's Great Floors (now Scherba & Co.), a London, Ontario retailer he grew to three locations before transitioning it to family ownership.

For Kanien, that experience means specification support you can trust, product decisions grounded in three decades of real-world performance, and the delivery capacity to back a specification at scale.
